There are farms, and then there are farms that have been in the same family for six generations. Elmwood Stock Farm in Georgetown, Kentucky is the latter — a working farm where the same land has been tended by the same family since the 1800s, and where the commitment to doing things right has only deepened with each passing generation.

The decision to go certified organic in 2000 wasn't a trend or a marketing move. It was a values decision — a commitment to the land, to the animals, and to the people who eat the food. John Bell and Ann Bell Stone returned to Elmwood in the mid-90s — Ann focused on vegetables for the farmers market, John on the cattle herd — and began a quiet transformation. USDA certified organic by 2000. The tobacco was gone.

The beef John raises is something special. He's spent years developing a Wagyu-Angus crossbreeding program — and has produced two cattle that graded USDA Prime on grass alone, which is almost unheard of. That's not luck; that's decades of genetic work and deep knowledge of what this Kentucky land can support.

Ann manages the CSA Farm Share, the marketing, and the poultry and sheep flocks. Between them — with the help of a full team — Elmwood runs a direct-to-customer operation stretching from farmers markets in Lexington and Cincinnati to home delivery across Central Kentucky. When you buy from Elmwood, you're buying from a farm that has been feeding Kentuckians continuously for well over a century.
